Under Constant Surveillance

Under Constant Surveillance explores the impact of continuous monitoring and digital observation on identity within modern society. Inspired by Nineteen Eighty-Four alongside the work of Gerhard Richter and Yuni Yoshida, the series investigates themes of governmental control, loss of privacy, and the dehumanisation of individuals in the 21st century.

Using physical pixelation and manipulated portraiture, the project visually represents the struggle of maintaining personal identity within an increasingly monitored world. Although the images maintain a modern, clean visual style, there is an underlying sense of distortion and discomfort that reflects the fragility of self-image under constant surveillance.

The fragmented imagery reflects the erosion of identity through digital exposure and the feeling of anonymity created within surveillance culture.

The final images were printed on Xpression Matt paper and mounted onto MDF boards to create an immersive installation piece. The presentation was designed to give the work a clean and contemporary appearance while encouraging viewers to engage more closely with the themes explored throughout the series.
